[Letter] 1937 Feb. 9, Athenaeum, 551 South Hill Avenue, Pasadena, Calif. [to] Miss Farrand / D. Nichol Smith.

Smith writes to present Farrand with a copy of Thomas Percy's Ancient songs, chiefly on Morrish subjects, to which Smith had written the preface. The book, originally to have been published in 1775, was not published until 1932. He discusses why it took so long to produce.

David Nichol Smith (1875-1962) was Merton Professor of English Literature at the University of Oxford from 1929 until his retirement in 1946.
